OpenAI is adding text watermarking in ChatGPT and Codex
- Published
- Record updated
Summary
OpenAI is rolling out textGrain, an invisible machine-readable watermark for text output, to ChatGPT and Codex, initially only for users in the European Union. OpenAI says textGrain "matched or exceeded" approaches such as Google DeepMind's SynthID for text, and that watermarked and unwatermarked text show similar benchmark scores. The move follows similar watermarking Anthropic announced in August to meet requirements of the EU's AI Act.
