Lawmakers probe growing use of Chinese AI models in U.S. companies

Summary

U.S. House Committees on Homeland Security and China are jointly investigating the growing adoption of Chinese-developed AI models by U.S. companies. Their initial step was sending letters to Cursor and Airbnb about their use of or exposure to these risks. The probe is also examining whether the U.S. has a sufficient open-weight AI strategy to compete with cheaper PRC-developed alternatives.
