Why work at the EU AI Office?

Summary
The European Commission established the EU AI Office within Directorate-General CONNECT to monitor, supervise and enforce AI Act requirements on general-purpose AI models across the EU. Unlike AI safety institutes in the US and UK, the Office has enforcement powers to compel non-compliant providers to take corrective measures or recall non-compliant general-purpose AI models. It plans 140 employees, with 60 current Commission staff, and aims to fill the remaining 80 positions by the end of 2025.
